Robert "Chic" McGlaughlin Easement Access

Trails

A Family-Friendly Gateway to Outdoor Fun and River Adventures in Independence.

The easement provides direct access to the Wapsipinicon River, making it an ideal spot for fishing, enjoying scenic river views, and simply relaxing by the water. Locally known as Littleton Dam Access, the Robert “Chic” McGlaughlin Easement Access is located at the old dam site at the small community of Littleton. In 2019, the dam was renovated into a series of rock rapids in an effort to make the area safer and allow for fish and other aquatic life to naturally move up and downstream. The area is privately owned (please respect private property), but Iowa DNR has an easement allowing public river access for fishing and paddling. The access is located downstream of the rock rapids, and there is a portage trail extending from above the rapids to the put-in. The put-in at Littleton makes for a nice half-day trip to the Iowa DNR’s Otterville Bridge Access. Wapsipinicon River Water Trail, one of the popular points of access.
