Daniel S. Lee Mansion

This historic home built in 1867 and once owned by Independence's first mayor.

The home is a fine example of Italianate architecture and is now owned by the Buchanan County Historical Society. The gardens to the rear are maintained by the Buchanan County Master Gardeners. The Capt. Daniel S. and Fannie L. (Brooks) Lee Mansion located in the 800 block of First Street East in Independence, Iowa, is a classic example of the Italianate Style and is locally significant. Its simple square form and symmetrical proportions speak of a formal, yet gracious, style of living.
